What Does a Revenue Growth Strategist Do? (And Do You Need One?)
Short answer: a revenue growth strategist looks at your whole business (your offers, pricing, funnels, content, email list and sales process), finds where money is being lost or left on the table, and builds a plan to grow your revenue. The good ones then help you implement it.
I'm Laurie Burrows, and this is what I do for coaches, consultants and online service providers. Here's what it actually looks like, and how to tell if you need one.
What does a revenue growth strategist actually do?
A business coach helps you think. A marketing agency does what you tell it. A revenue growth strategist sits in the middle: they work out what will make you more money, then make sure it gets done.
- Audit your numbers. Leads, conversion rates, average order value, how often clients buy again.
- Find the leaks. Past clients who never hear from you, funnels with no upsell, launches that stop 48 hours too early.
- Fix your offers and pricing. Most service businesses are undercharging and have no next step for happy clients.
- Build the system. Content, funnels and emails that work together so every post has a job.
- Track and adjust. Weekly numbers, so you double down on what works.
Revenue growth strategist vs business coach vs marketing agency
- Business coach: helps with mindset, decisions and accountability. Usually doesn't build anything.
- Marketing agency: builds and runs campaigns, usually based on your brief. Often no ownership of revenue.
- Revenue growth strategist: starts from the revenue goal, builds the plan, and either implements it with you or hands it to a team.
Signs you need a revenue growth strategist
- Your revenue has plateaued and doing more of the same isn't moving it.
- You're fully booked but not making the money you should be.
- Your content gets engagement but not sales.
- Launches feel like a gamble.
- You're the bottleneck for everything.
How much does a revenue growth strategist cost?
It depends on how hands-on they are. Strategy-only support is often a few thousand a quarter. A strategist plus a team that implements for you costs more, but replaces several hires. My 1:1 Growth Partner is £10,000 for 3 months, or £5,000 plus a 10% revenue share.

FAQs
Is a revenue growth strategist the same as a sales consultant?
Not quite. A sales consultant focuses on closing. A revenue growth strategist looks at the whole journey, from how people find you to how often they buy again.
Do I need a big audience to work with a revenue growth strategist?
No. Some of the quickest wins come from what you already have: your list, your past clients and your existing offers.
Can a revenue growth strategist guarantee results?
No ethical one will promise you a number. What they should give you is a clear plan, honest numbers and help to implement it.
